Norbury residents have until 11.59pm on 28 September 2026 to comment on Croydon Council’s draft plans for expanding electric vehicle charging across the borough.
The council says the strategy is intended to make public charging easier to access and to support households that do not have a private driveway. That issue is particularly relevant on many residential roads in and around Norbury, where off-street parking is not available to every household.
According to Croydon Council, at least 439 public charging points were available across the borough in July 2026. The council says forecasts suggest around 4,500 charge points could be needed by 2035.
The consultation is seeking views from residents, businesses, community groups and industry partners. The council says it wants feedback on affordability and access to public charging, including from households unable to use cheaper off-peak home charging tariffs because they do not have a driveway.
What the draft strategy could cover
The council says it has received around £950,000 of Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure capital funding from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles up to 2028 for new charging points.
It has also received £193,000 in grant funding to pilot and potentially expand cross-pavement charging solutions. These are intended to allow some residents without driveways to charge an electric vehicle from home while managing the cable safely across the pavement.
Operational details, including management of charge points, pricing and usage arrangements, are expected to be decided later and informed by the consultation.
